After weeks of research in an attempt to answer the above "million dollar" question for the purpose of this article, I must confess I still have no idea. The best answer I have been able to come up with is it depends entirely on who you ask. My search reminded me of another classic question, "What came first the chicken or the egg?" Good luck answering that one too! I felt like a dog chasing its tail, running in circles in the middle of an endless maze unable to find a clear path out.

According to numerous sources Classic Rock was a term created by radio stations to define a programming format which began as an Album Oriented Rock (AOR) format in the 1980's. Originally Classic Rock radio stations featured rock music from the 1970's however, the playlists were soon expanded to include some music from the '50's and '60's as well. In recent years "classic rock" playlists have continued to grow as radio stations have thrown music from the '80's and '90's into the Classic Rock crock pot as well, resulting in a watered down alphabet soup containing virtually everything in the pantry, thus robbing the soup of any distinct flavour of its own.
